Double-shafted kneading and mixing machine - inserts plates into element gaps to adjust kneading intensity

Material travelling between the inlet and outlet of an elongated horizontal housing formed of two intersecting cylinders is mixed and kneaded by tools on rotating stirrer shafts, one in each cylinder. One shaft rotatad faster than the second shaft, e.g. in a ratio of 4:1 produced by differential gearing, has at axial intervals segmental kneading arms interconnected by bars at their outer ends, closely approaching the housing wall. The segmental arms mesh between tools projecting from the slower second shaft. Where the sheet forces are greatest, the gaps between these second shaft tools hold plates altering the extent of material access to the adjacent kneading area and thus varying kneading intensity. ADVANTAGE - Kneading intensity variation permits full use of machine capabilities.
