PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound in high yield, by reacting calcium hypochlorite with ammonia in an aqueous phase in the presence of a carbonyl compound, and removing the solid component in the reaction mixture to a concentration within a specific range, thereby separating the objective compound. CONSTITUTION:An azine is prepared by reacting calcium hypochlorite with ammonia in an aqueous phase in the presence of a carbonyl compound (e.g. acetaldehyde), and separating the azine from the reaction mixture. In the above process, the solid component in the reaction mixture is removed to a concentration of <=110ppm. The removal can be carried out e.g. by coagulation and precipitation process, vacuum filtration process, pressure filtration process, centrifugal separation process, etc., and above all, the process using a filter having leaf-filtering element is most preferable. The removal of the solid component to the concentration within the aforementioned range enables the long-term continuous operation of the following process for the separation of azine by extraction and/or distillation, and improves the yield of azine.
