PURPOSE:To work a roughly spherical body made of brittle material in a barrel in which no grindstone can be set, by introducing a plurality of brittle elements inside the barrel container and carrying out grinding by the mutual collision of the elements by moving the container. CONSTITUTION:A number of cubic elements 2 are formed by cutting a plate body 1 made of ceramic sintered material into lattice form by a grinding machine, etc., and fed into a longitudinal-shaped rotary barrel 3 consisting of a trunk body 4, circular bottom plate 5 and a cover plate 6. Then, the bottom plate 5 is revolved by a rotary shaft 7, and then a number of elements 2 perform a variety of movements by a plurality of pins 8 erected on the bottom plate 5 in the trunk body 4, and the corner parts are rounded by the contact between the elements 2, and a rough spherical body is formed. Then, finishing work is performed by using the lapping the grinding work or using a lap polishing working machine, and a correct spherical body is finished, and a spherical body for ball bearing can be obtained. Thus, a rough spherical body made of brittle material can be formed in economical ways. |
