PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a curing agent for epoxy resin, etc., by catalytically hydrogenating iminodiacetonitrile, to improve yield economically, by adding a phenol to the reaction system in the presence of a catalyst such as nickel type catalyst, etc., at a specific temperature under specific pressure. CONSTITUTION:A phenol or an imidazole is added to iminodiacetonitrile as a raw material and catalytic hydrogenation is carried out in a reaction solvent such as methanol, etc., in the presence of a nickel catalyst or a cobalt catalyst at 50-350 deg.C, preferably 100-250 deg.C at 10-500kg/cm<2> hydrogen pressure to give the aimed compound. Dinitrophenol, etc., may be cited as the phenol and imidazole may be cited as the imidazole and the amount of the phenol or the imidazole added is 0.0001-2pts.wt., preferably 0.001-0.5pt.wt. based on 1pt.wt. raw material. A nickel-or cobalt-containing Raney catalyst is preferable as the catalyst used. |
