PURPOSE:To enhance a recording speed to a large extent by making it possible to perform 7 kinds of color recordings by one reciprocating motion of a carriage, by arranging four ink ribbon cassettes having different colors on the carriage in predetermined order and providing thermal heads for thermally melting ink ribbons at every ink ribbon cassette. CONSTITUTION:Four ink ribbon cassettes 5-8 receiving four ink ribbons having colors Y, M, C, B mounted on a carriage cover 26 have the same structure and are arranged in the order of B, Y, M, C in a recording direction. When a head unit 24 reaches a printing area, for example, in a case ready to print an orange color, a heat generating element 24a is heated according to a printing signal and the ink ribbon Y present between the head unit 24 and recording paper is melted by the heat of said element 24a to adhere ink to the recording paper, and subsequently after a delay of predetermined time it is placed in cooperation with the adjacent ink ribbon cassette M6. A head unit 23 is contacted with the recording paper under pressure and, thereafter, a printing signal is applied to heat a heat generating element 23a and a magenta color M is printed on a yellow color Y to print the orange color being the mixed color of Y and M on the recording paper. |
