The invention relates to an absorption sound deadener which is arranged in the dust-conveying pipe of a hand vacuum cleaner with a so-called downstream filter. The dust-conveying pipe is perforated over a part of the circumference, and this part is surrounded by soft sound-absorbtion material, the perforated part being mechanically separated from the dust-conveying pipe at least on one side, and the sound-absorption material being provided with an air-impermeable outer skin. <IMAGE>
