Known copiers cannot be operated ergonomically, for example when copying books or magazines. For example, a right-handed person uses the right hand to press the original firmly against the resting surface and then reaches with the left hand towards the copying button which is arranged at the outermost end of the operating panel. This sequence with changing the hands over is very interfering, especially when rapidly copying several pages of a book. This unergonomic operation is avoided according to the invention, by at least one additional actuating button which is arranged in an ergonomically favourable position and by means of which the copying operation can likewise be triggered in addition to using the copying button. By means of the two symmetrically arranged buttons for triggering the copying operation or by means of a foot switch constructed as an additional actuating button, ergonomically favourable operation of the copier is possible at any time. <IMAGE>
