Micro-foam spheres which have open pores and have a preferably honeycomb-like structure or hollow fibres with a length between 1 and 10 mu and a diameter to length ratio of between 1:2 and 1:20 are particularly well suited for use as particles for an accumulator having electrodes consisting of a mechanical carrier and a porous material, which is held on the mechanical carrier, whose pores hold electrolyte liquid and whose porosity is increased by the introduction of said particles.
