Controlled and prolonged release device for release of an active agnet (I) comprises a core sheet sandwiched between coextensive polymeric films inpermeable to the ambient environment and to (I). The core sheet comprises (I) in a polymer matrix. The device has a macroperforation (s) extending through the films and core sheet. The dimensions and arrangement of the macroperforation (s) and the thickness of the core sheet are selected to expose sufficient interior edged area of the sheet to the environment for the desired release rate of (I).
