A metal cutting tool for machining with chip removal, such as piercing, chamfering, milling and facing, has a narrow cutter holder and exchangeable cutting inserts. The cutter holder (1) has a slot (6) to receive the cutting inserts (S) with an upper (7) and a lower (8) jaw having approximately parallel upper (11) and lower (12) locating faces for the cutting inserts. One jaw (7) can resiliently pivot on a narrow web (9) thanks to a slit (14) in the cutter holder (1) that extends almost as far as the rear end of the slot, and by means of a spreading element (22) in the slit can be made to press against the cutting insert. The spreading element is a wedge (29, 30) laterally arranged on a support (ring 26) which penetrates into the slit (14) next to the enlargement and can be drawn into the slit (14) by means of the support (14). |
