METHOD FOR THE INJECTION OF FUEL PILLS IN A FUSION PLASMA

For injection of fuel pellets (9) into a fusion plasma experiments have been made to produce the necessary acceleration pressure by condensing hydrogen on the inner wall of a cooled discharge chamber (1), and thereupon to evaporate and heat the hydrogen by means of an electrical arc discharge in the chamber. However, this requires cooling of the discharge chamber after every injection, which demands a large energy consumption and further causes that the intervals between successive injections cannot be made shorter than the cooling time for the discharge chamber. These disadvantages are remedied by introducing the hydrogen into the discharge chamber (1) in the form of cryocondensed hydrogen pellets.
