摘要 Process for determining and locating flat spots (18) on the rolling surface of wheels (20, 22, 24, 26) made of an electrically conductive material, in which use is made of a high frequency electric circuit connected to the rails (10, 12). The evaluation is performed by the interruption in contact when a flat spot does not rest on the rail. This interruption due to the flat spot occurs at speeds of 40 km/h and above for example. The evaluation of the interruption in contact is performed on a measurement section consisting of two identical portions (14, 16, 14', 16') of a rail (10, 12), said section being isolated electrically at three points (13, 15, 17, 13', 15', 17'), - at its ends and in the middle. Each portion is provided with a connection to a separate high frequency electrical circuit. The length (1) of the measurement section formed of two portions of equal length (s) is suited at least to the largest wheel circumference of the rail-mounted vehicle. The measurement signals are digitally emitted and assessed by means of micro-processors (88, 90, 92, 88', 90'). The flat spots (18) can be precisely correlated with the axle concerned (28, 30). Both measurement sections must provide unambiguous information on the presence of a flat spot.
