A device for testing the vitality of a tooth by means of cold possesses a contact piece which is to be applied to the tooth to be tested and is arranged on a housing designed as a handle. The housing comprises a device for the production of cold, and a cold-conducting connecting member is located between the device for the production of cold and the contact piece. The device for the production of cold is a Peltier cell.
