Cover intended for use on a ladle, whereby the inner side of the cover is provided with a heat-resistant material and whereby at least one burner 4, 5 is fitted in the cover, suitable for burning either liquid or gaseous fuel and oxygen, for heating the charge in the ladle. The cover incorporates holding devices 10, 11; 12, 13 for the burner by which the burner 4, 5 can be partly moved axially relative to the melt-bath surface, and partly turned relative to the burner's vertical line towards the melt-bath surface, whereby the burner, depending on its combustion efficiency, is adjusted to provide the best possible heat transfer from the burner flame to the melt bath, while at the same time minimising the chemical effect on the melt bath. <IMAGE>
