In the case of a reversible pole three-phase motor for underground operation, especially a squirrel-cage rotor motor having two three-phase stator windings which are connected to each alternating current phase of the driving three-phase current by means of in each case one electrically controlled switching device, remotely controllable, electromagnetic switching devices being provided for DC isolation of the wires of the motor supply lead carrying the alternating currents of each phase, it is provided according to the invention that thyristors (20 to 29) are used as electrically controlled switching devices of the two stator windings (12, 17). These thyristors (20 to 29) are installed in the motor housing (2) together with their controller (30, 31). A motor supply lead (5) having three single-phase alternating-current wires (I1 to I3) is also provided, which wires are connected by means of the remotely controllable, electromagnetic switches (contactor) (16 to 18) to the single-phase alternating currents (L1 to L3) of the driving three-phase current (15) and, in the motor housing (5), are connected by means of a wire (I1) to in each case one stator terminal (20, 21) of a stator winding, and by means of the two other wires (I2, I3) to in each case two stator terminals (22 to 25), which are provided with a thyristor (26 to 29), of each stator winding (Figure 2). <IMAGE>
