PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a magnetic recording medium by forming an oriented film consisting of a higher fatty acid or the deriv. thereof or the metal salt thereof on a protective film layer on a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The protective film layer consisting of metal nitride, metal carbide or metal oxide is provided on the magnetic layer and the oriented film consisting of the higher fatty acid or the deriv. thereof or the metal salt thereof is further formed thereon. Since the oriented film constituted in the above-mentioned manner maintains good lubricity for a long period of time, the friction with a head is decreased and the wear and damage of the protective film layer and magnetic layer are decreased, by which the durability of the recording medium is improved. |
