PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium having good corrosion resistance and runnability and high durability and reliability by forming a Co passive state film on the surface of a layer, and forming a corrosion resistant protective film consisting of silicon oxide on the Co passive state film. CONSTITUTION:Vapor deposition of a Co-20wt% Ni thin ferromagnetic metallic film which is a magnetic material 2 having; for example, 1,500Angstrom thickness on a substrate 1 consisting of a PE terephthalate film is executed by using a Co-Ni (by weight; for example, 80:20) as a vapor deposition source and executing electron beam melting in a prescribed vacuum. A stock roll after the vapor deposition is then taken out of a vacuum vessel and is put into another vessel. After the pressure therein is reduced, gaseous oxygen is sealed therein. The treatment is executed for a certain period to form the Co passive state film 3 on the Ni thin ferromagnetic metallic film. The substrate is again put into the vacuum vessel and the corrosion resistant protective film 4 consisting of SiO2 having a prescribed thickness is formed on the film 3 and a lubricating agent layer 5 is formed on the surface thereof by coating perfluoroalkyl polyether which is a fluorinated lubricating agent thereon. |
