The vehicle passes down a 2 deg. slope onto the grid (6) above a pit (3). Water from a supply pipe (10), or recirculated water from the pit, is pumped via pipes and electrically operated taps (11) to spray heads (9) on levels which coincide with the insides of the tyres and the outside hubs of the wheels(16). The entire installation is supported by piles (7) driven into the earth. The grid is supported inside the pit by longitudinal beams (5), which run the length of the pit. The slope of the entrance and exit sections on either side of the pit is increased to 10 deg. to aid splashed water to run back into the pit. /4.
