The invention relates to a hydraulic press for pressing a drum housing radioactive waste materilas. In the press having a pressure jacket (20), the press ram comprises two plungers (7),(8) in a telescopic construction. The central plunger (8) is fixed to the hydraulic cylinder (5) and the plunger (7) freely rotatable relative to the plunger (8) is stepped in such way that the pressure jacket (20) is housed between the outer side wall of the lower part of the plunger (7) and the inner wall of the cylinder (5). The lower part of the plunger (7) is provided with a skirt (17) to protect the cylinder wall from a damage.
