PURPOSE:To eliminate a shock caused by a speed change in any condition, by effecting a duty control so as to change a rate of reduction in a line pressure in accordance with a rate of change in a degree of a throttle opening. CONSTITUTION:A pressure modifier valve 3 is controlled by a duty pressure P3 regulated by a duty ratio of a duty solenoid 4a. A line pressure P1 is controlled by a pressure modifier pressure P2 of its output through a pressure regulator valve 2 so that a line pressure P1 to a shift valve 14 is controlled by a shift solenoid 4b. Then, the duty solenoid 4a and the shift solenoid 4b are controlled by an output to a line pressure reducing rate calculated by a computer based on a rate of change in a degree of a throttle opening. Therefore, a clutch torque does not exceed an engine torque even when an accelerator pedal is depressed quickly, whereby a shock caused by a speed change is eliminated.
