The object of the invention is to separate the foliar elements 15 presented in the form of a layered pile, to project them onto a reception or pick-up area 5 and, if the pile is mounted on a comb or ravel 16, to simultaneously unwind it. It consists of a rotating assembly 1 which strikes the pile, thus separating the surface layers, while propelling the elements 15 from the struck layer, these elements being received on a reception or pick-up area 5. The device is applicable to handling with a view to the selection, counting and other individual operations, for non-smooth, plant or manufactured leaves, for example tobacco leaves. <IMAGE>
