PURPOSE:To eliminate the waste of polarizing plates by cutting a long-sized polarizing tape just prior to affixing, detecting the defects of the polarizing plate and cutting the same in the position right after the defect detected at the time of affixing said tape to, for example, liquid crystal cells. CONSTITUTION:A continuous polarizing plate tape 3 drawn out from a reel is transferred intermittently by an air feeder of a feeder 13 which is so set as to feed the tape by a required size. The tape 3 with its separator 6 faced downward is let off onto the tool rest 22 of a defect detector 14, and is detected of the presence or absence of any defect. If there is no defect in the polarizing plate and when the feed of the feeder 13 finishes, a blade 23 lowers and at the same time, the tool rest retreats to cut the tape 3 half, thereby giving a break 3c to the plate 4 and a self- adhesive agent layer 5. When there is a defect 3a in the polarizing plate, a feeder 17 stops advancing upon passage of said defect 3a through a sensor 25, and the plate is cut half in the position right after the defect 3a, whereby the break 3c is provided. |
