PURPOSE:To remove carbonyl sulfide in liquid hydrocarbon at a low cost without using high-temperature gasification or addition of water nor causing poisoning of catalyst, by contacting the liquid hydrocarbon with zinc oxide at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:Carbonyl sulfide in a 2-6C hydrocarbon, especially an olefin such as ethylene, propylene, butene, hexene, etc., is removed by contacting the hydrocarbon with zinc oxide at 0-100 deg.C, preferably 10-70 deg.C under normal pressure-50atm keeping the hydrocarbon in liquid state. The contact of the hydrocarbon with the zinc oxide is carried out e.g. by adding powdery zinc oxide to the hydrocarbon and filtering the mixture after agitation or passing the hydrocarbon through a column or a tank filled with zinc oxide.
|
