The apparatus comprises a wheel loader (1), equipped with a bucket (2), or a transport machine (1) in which a cutter device (6) for compost is arranged in the front area. The cutter device (6) can be lifted for filling the bucket (2), and the bucket contents can be cut off when the cutter device (6) is lowered for discharging a loose stack (3) of compost. The bucket contents can be fed to the cutter device (6) by a displaceable bucket rear wall (10).
