A method for producing an insulating material cylinder for high dielectric stresses, whose cylindrical wall consists of a cured casting resin with reinforcement made of non-woven fabric embedded in a plurality of layers. The non-woven fabric mat is passed through a resin impregnating bath and is wound onto the winding mandrel via a roller, which is driven in synchronism with the winding mandrel, without any additional tensile stress. The liquid resin is compressed and distributed uniformly in the winding by means of a film which rests on the winding over a circumference of less than 360 DEG , moves with the winding and is at least as wide as the non-woven fabric mat.
