摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of an orientation defect and to permit satisfactory exhibition of the characteristics of a ferroelectric liquid crystal by providing a taper angle in a 0-90 deg. range to color filter picture elements on substrates and providing overlap parts with the adjacent picture elements in a specific range. CONSTITUTION:The respective color filter picture elements are formed to a trapezoidal shape and are preliminarily set with the concn. of coloring materials so as to have desired spectral characteristics at an equal film thickness. The picture elements are provided with the taper angles by controlling exposure to have the overlap parts with the adjacent picture elements in part of the hypotenuse thereof. More specifically, the range of the sectional taper angle of one picture element is set at 0<theta<90 deg. and the range of the overlap width with the adjacent picture element is set at 0<w<=(d/tantheta) where the film thickness of the picture elements of the color filters is designated as d(mum), the sectional taper angle between the lower base and hypotenuse of the picture elements as theta( deg.) and the overlap width of the hypotenuse of the adjacent picture elements as w(mum). A protective film or flattening film 9 is formed on the color filter layer at need.</p>
