Mouldable mass contg. water glass, opt. fine quartz and opt. curing agent has addn. of 3-5 wt.% (dry wt. basis) active silicon. Fine cellulose fibre in basic medium (bicarbonate) can pref. be added to mass. Pref. 5-75 wt.% (dry wt.) cellulose fibres pref. arising as zero fibres from pine wood and contains tannic acid. Prepn. is by mixing compsn. contg. water glass with fibre with adjusted pH.
