LIQUID CRYSTAL COLOR DISPLAY ELEMENT

PURPOSE:To obviate exfoliation and flawing of a color filter layer and to permit stable color display with high quality by forming the color filter layer on the outside surface of a plastic film substrate of a liquid crystal cell and coating the color filter layer with a transparent protective film. CONSTITUTION:The color filter layer 41 is formed on the outside surface of the lower substrate 41 consisting of the plastic film. The color filter layer 41 is constituted of color filter picture elements of three primary colors; R(red), G(green) and B(blue) corresponding to the picture element electrode part of transparent picture element electrodes 23 on the Y side. The color filter layer 41 is coated with the protective film 43. Namely, the protective film 43 protects the surface of the color filters to prevent the flawing of the color filters owing to the contact with other members and the exfoliation of the color filters during handling prior to assembly or during assembly or use after the assembly.
