PURPOSE:To enable reductions in cost and weight, by providing a head-fixing plate on which a printing head is mounted and which is turnably supported on a head carriage, and disposing a friction member fixed to the head-fixing plate and a carriage guide member so that they make contact with each other. CONSTITUTION:In a printing operation, a head carriage 5 is fed in the direction of an arrow A, when a frictional force Ff is generated between a friction member 12 and a guide member 6b in the direction opposite to the arrow A. A component Fu of the force Ff turns a head-fixing plate 10 clockwise around a shaft 11, whereby a thermal head 4 is pressed toward a platen. In a line feeding operation after completion of printing, the carriage 5 is fed in the direction of an arrow B, when a frictional force Ff is generated between the friction member 12 and the guide member 6b in the direction opposite to the arrow B. A component Fu of the force Ff turns the plate 10 counterclockwise around the shaft 11, whereby pressing of the head 4 is released. With this construction, the need for driving component parts, driving and controlling circuits or the like is eliminated, and reductions in cost, weight and size can be achieved. |
