The invention relates to an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) for encoding and decoding data streams by means of a CPU and optionally a co-processor and an encryption algorithm that is implemented in the hardware of the system. The aim of the invention is to provide a generic ASIC that is highly secure and that at the same time allows for a high data throughput. For the purpose of encoding and decoding data streams, the application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) is therefore provided with a PCMCIA interface functionally linked with a PCMCIA card that is configured as a database memory holding code information. |
