摘要 <p>A sensor (1) detects the passage of a piston or group of pistons through TDC or through a point at a pre- established angle in advance of or behind TDC. To the sensor (1) there is connected a pulse shaping circuit (5) which supplies ON-OFF type output signals (B) with two successive level switchings separated by a time interval said to be proportional to the speed of rotation of the engine each time a piston or group of pistons passes through TDC or other predetermined point. An electronic processing and control unit (10) effects ignition, via an ignition coil (T), and automatic control of the advance of the ignition, in response to the output signals (B) and to signals from sensors (6....N) detecting operating conditions of the engine. Each time rotation of the engine is started, the first signal (B) supplied by the pulse shaping circuit (5) is detected by a monitor (15), which initiates the storage of energy in the ignition coil (T) in response to the first switching level of the signal (B) followed by activation of an ignition spark in response to the second switching level of the signal (B). In this way the angle of rotation of the engine before the first effective ignition spark in the starting phase is minimised. <IMAGE></p>
