PURPOSE:To increase nickel electrode utilization and life by slowly charging a battery having a nonsintered nickel electrode mainly comprising nickel hydroxide and containing cobalt powder and conductive material at low temperature. CONSTITUTION:A battery is constructed with a nonsintered nickel electrode mainly comprising nickel hydroxide and containing cobalt powder, conductive powder such as nickel or carbon, and a binder if necessary, in addition to a conventional negative electrode and a separator. This battery is charged for formation at a low temperature of -5-10 deg.C. In the formation process, when discharge is required, the battery is discharged at a high temperature of room temperature or more. |
