<p>PURPOSE:To form an optical printer head using an optical ceramic element with a capability of printing characters of high quality by using light-shielding common electrodes and individual electrodes whose edges are combined to define the external shape of dots with an insulation membrane interposed. CONSTITUTION:An optical ceramic element 1 is composed of PLZT with common electrodes 2 and individual electrodes 3 consisting of aluminium membrane provided on the surface, which therefore have light-shielding properties. These electrodes 2, 3 are provided through an insulation membrane 4 of nitrified silicon having a plurality of through holes 41, 41.... The areas where the electrodes 2, 3 directly contact the optical ceramic element 1 to apply an effective electric field are only those represented by the through holes 41, 41... of the insulation membrane 4. The areas where no electrodes are provided on both sides of whisker-shape electrodes 31, 31... of the individual electrodes 3, 3... form light- transmitting windows. The common electrodes 2 and individual electrodes 3 are adjacent to each other on the insulation membrane 4, and substantially form the frames of the light-transmitting windows. For this reason, the projection shape of light is fixed, resulting in the uniform distribution of an electric field. Thus the scattering or leakage of light is minimized.</p> |
