The spiked running shoe for track events incorporates a wedge shaped insert (3) above the heel, so that the sole (2) of the foot slopes downwards from the rear. This supports the foot in the most favourable position when it is resting on a starting block at the beginning of a race. The design is also most favourable for foot movements during running, enabling fast speeds to be achieved. The spikes (5,6) are designed to reduce the amount of soil loosened due to the running action. Under the tip of the toe are grooves to improve the grip. The single spike (5') under the tip of the toe has a rounded front face and the single spike (6') at the rear has a rounded rear face. The other front spikes (5) have backwardly sloping rear faces. The other two rear spikes (6) have forwardly sloping front faces. The material of the toe is very flexible. ADVANTAGE - Improved foot action for high running speeds.
