Cationic isothiazole azo cpds. of formula (I) are new: R1 = opt. substd. 1-4C alkyl; R2 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl opt. substd. by halogen, CN, 1-4C alkoxy or Ar; Ar = phenyl opt. substd. by Me, OMe and/or halogen; R5 and R6 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R7 = H, 1-4C alkyl or phenyl; Y = a direct bond or CHR4; R4 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R8 and R9 = H or 1-4C alkyl, but not alkyl when 7 = CHR4; X = anion; provided that at least one of R3-R6 is H when Y = CHR4. USE - (I) are useful as dyes for dyeing and printing of textile materials, e.g. acrylonitrile (co)polymers, acid-modified polyesters or polyamides, and for colouring plastics, fibres in the gel state, tanned cellulosic materials, leather and paper.
