PURPOSE:To improve light power resistance by forming clads having the refractive index smaller than the refractive index of an optical fiber core to both ends of the optical fiber core. CONSTITUTION:The clads having the refractive index smaller than the refractive index of the optical fiber core are formed to both ends of the optical fiber core. The clads 2 formed to the incident side end and exist side end of the optical fiber core 1 of 0.5mm diameter formed by using; for example, KRS-5 consisting of mixed crystals of thallium bromide and thallium iodide is formed to 20mum thickness by using KRS-6 consisting of mixed crystals of thallium bromide and thallium chloride. The clads 2 are formed by vapor deposition and have 5mm length from the end face. The edges at the incident end and exist end are protected during polishing of the end faces of the optical fiber core by the formation of such clads; therefore, the light power resistance of the optical fiber is improved. |
