PURPOSE:To obtain dimethyl sulfide in high yield, by contacting a raw material containing methanol and carbon disulfide with a highly active and selective catalyst containing a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite in gaseous phase at a high temperature. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced contacting a mixture of methanol and carbon disulfide with a catalyst containing crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite in gaseous phase at 200-500 deg.C, preferably 350-450 deg.C. The crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite is preferably those having an SiO2/Al2O3 ratio of >=0.8mol/mol and is e.g. mordenite, ZSM-5, etc. The crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite contains cations such as alkaline earth metal ions which can be exchanged by ion exchange technique. |
