PURPOSE:To lower the residual Ca content and to improve the magnetic characteristics by adding a reducing agent such as metallic Ca and a flux to NdF3, Fe and B and reducing the NdF3 under prescribed conditions. CONSTITUTION:Metallic Ca and/or CaH2 as a reducing agent and CaCl2, NaCl or KCl as a flux are added to NdF3, Fe and B. These starting materials are melted by heating to 1,000-1,300 deg.C in an atmosphere of a nonoxidative gas to reduce the NdF3 and to obtain an Nd-B-Fe alloy consisting of 25-50wt% Nd, 0.3-5wt% B and the balance Fe. |
