PURPOSE:To easily and speedily make an automatic focus adjustment by vibrating an image pickup element by a piezoelectric element in optical-axis directions and deciding a focusing state on the basis of variation in the level of a high frequency component to the vibrations of the image pickup element. CONSTITUTION:A signal DE is '1' when an AC voltage Ec is plus and '0' when minus. The level of the signal DE, therefore, indicates the vibrating directions of the image pickup element 14. This signal DE is supplied to a control part 22. The control part 22 while monitoring the vibrating directions of the element 14 from the level of the signal DE reads the level of a digital signal indicating the high frequency component HSV of a video signal SV out of an A/D converter 20 and controls an image pickup lens 12 on the basis of variation in the level. |
