The control system has the control signals of at least individual injection valves blanked out for instantaneous control with gear changing events. With the beginning of the gear change for a selected time duration, control signals are blanked out and then the number of controlled injection valves is increased again. The selected time duration is detarmined by the gear change. The phase of the re-selection of the injection valve is set to the drive train of the vehicle. With the beginning of the gear change a count event is started and controls the renewed invoking of the individual injection valves.
