The invention relates to an electrostatic recording device. It relates to a device which comprises two assemblies 1, 2, hinged to each other, and capable of being locked on each other. The lower assembly 2 comprises a device 58 comprising a photoconductive element, and a developing device 59 which comprises a developing roll, placed in contact with the photoconductive element. A safety switch cuts the supply when the two assemblies are separated from each other. The apparatus is safe, of small size, easy to maintain, and with a long working life, and gives good image quality. Application to devices forming copiers, facsimile machines or printers. <IMAGE>
