The clamping element comprises a cylindrical part, having a bore for the cylinder axis for receiving an axial connecting screw, and, on the cylinder casing, a pair of rigid jaws which are arranged parallel to the axial bore and the spacing of which is greater than the thickness of the panel-type structures which are to be connected, an adjustment screw being provided on one jaw in order to press and secure the panel-type structure against the other jaw. Various fittings can be produced using one and the same type of clamping element, in order to fit together a different number of panels at essentially any angles along rectilinear boundary lines. The system of fittings is, in particular, useful for setting up racks or display walls for fairs and exhibitions.
