STEREOSCOPIC TELEVISION SYSTEM

PURPOSE:To transmit a stereoscopic picture signal with one channel of signal band by band-compressing two signals for left and right eyes and multiplexing them on one signal. CONSTITUTION:The pictures photographed with a camera 101 for the left and a camera 102 for the right are respectively converted into a luminance signal Y and chronimance signals I and Q in YIQ encoders 109 and 110. An output YH(left) signal from an HPF 114 is added to an output YL(left+right) signal from an LPF 115 in an adder 119 to obtain a YL(left+right)+YH(left) signal. The output YH(right) signal from the HPF 116 is modulated in a multiplier 120. An I (left+right) and a Q(lett+right) signals obtained in the adders 112 and 113 are modulated in the multiplier 121. The adder 129 multiplexes the YH(right) signal on the television signal in an NTSC system so as to obtain a signal that a parallax signal from a parallax information detector 123 is multiplexed in a vertical blanking period.
