The force measurement device contains a rod (1) for introducing the force, a support (2) for force absorption, an annular spring (3) between the rod and the support and an optical displacement sensor (8). The sensor detects the displacement between the rod and the support. The sensor contains a light source (6) and a semiconductor (7) which detects an illuminated point. The light source and semiconductor are supplied by two parts (4,5) one (4) of which is attached to the rod and one (5) to the support. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for use in hand force measurement arrangement. More accurate than purely mechanical devices.
