Situated between light-emitting diode (2) and function-monitoring element (3) is a first optical filter (4) whose transmission range covers, for example, the lower spectral range of the radiation emitted by the light-emitting diode. A second optical filter (6), which preferably forms the common envelope (1) for light-emitting diode and function-monitoring element, is designed so that its transmission range covers the upper spectral range of the radiation which can be detected by the monitoring element. This achieves the result that the function-monitoring element (3) can be activated only by the radiation which can be emitted by the light-emitting diode (2).
