The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of continuous veneers of real wood (73) with a pore-containing finished veneer surface structure, for example an oak-wood structure, in which a raw continuous veneer (5, 29), assembled from sheet veneers (3) is processed to the finished veneer preferably after backing with a support web (12) and smoothing of the raw-veneer surface. In order, in particular, to be able to manufacture continuous veneers of real wood with a uniform, continuous pore structure, the raw continuous veneer (5, 29) is assembled from sheet veneers (3) with a fine pore in relation to the surface pore structure of the finished veneer, and a finished veneer pore structure is impressed. An apparatus for carrying out the process according to the invention is equipped with a continuous conveyor belt (36), capable of being supported on a frame, for conveying the raw continuous veneer (5, 29) assembled from the sheet veneers (3) from a take-off reel (28) to a take-up reel (44) and has a roller pair which can be fixed to the frame so as to be able to rotate and consists of a pressing roller (40) and a counterpressure roller (29) cooperating therewith, between the active circumferential surfaces of which rollers the conveyor belt (36) and the raw continuous veneer (5, 29) are guided.
