The cutter-shield driving apparatus consists of driving cutters (10, 12, 14, 16, 18) which can be acted upon via a pressure device and are mutually guided at their longitudinal sides. The guides consist of guide straps (20) and of wedge elements (30) which are guided in these guide straps (20). To change the direction of the driving, it is sufficient to select any suitable guide cutter (14), which during the driving is directionally controlled via hydraulic jacks (34, 36) attached to the neighbouring cutters (12, 16). In the process, the guide strap (20) slides on the wedge element (30) of the adjacent cutter (12), and the wedge element of the cutter (14) slides in the guide strap on the cutter (16). After the hydraulic jacks (34) and (36) are removed, the adjacent cutters can be driven starting from the respectively directly adjacent cutter (12) or (16), as a result of which the cutters driven one after the other are automatically orientated relative to the driving cutter (14) via the guidance of the straps on the wedge surfaces. <IMAGE>
