The invention relates to a triggerable pulse generator which periodically outputs a stored electric charge at fixed or variable pulse repetition rate via an electronic switch as a short-time pulse of high voltage and high current intensity (T </= 200 ns, U </= 800 V, I </= 200 A) to a load impedance, preferably a laser diode, and in which triggering is effected by a trigger generator which periodically turns on the electronic switch, in which arrangement the pulse generator, coupling the trigger generator to the load impedance, can be operated in dependence on the latter. <IMAGE>
