A slide projector has a holding magazine for slides. The magazine can be moved longitudinally in the projector housing and the slides can be taken from it by means of a changing device and brought, in particular in a vertical direction of movement, into a film gate (trap) which is situated in the projection beam. For the purpose of multiple use of the slide projector, it is provided that in the direction of the projection beam the projector housing (2) has a step (7) downstream of the film gate in the direction of the projection beam, and that the step (7) accommodates an adaptor (14) which can be plugged on at the projector housing (2) and which carries an optical device and holds the latter in the projection beam. <IMAGE>
