A stackable thin-walled receptacle, in particular a drinking beaker usable in beverage-vending machines, can be manufactured with a considerably reduced thickness of its circumferential wall and thus considerably reduced weight if in its stepped circumferential-wall region 16 intended as gripping piece all the steps 16a to 16f are equipped with stacking elements and at least one of these steps, preferably the uppermost step 16a and the lowermost step 16f is constructed with a somewhat enlarged effective (or apparent) axial height. In the steps with enlarged axial height, the stacking elements immediately become operative when the receptacles are fitted together, and on exertion of an axial pressure on the stack are deformed such that a mutual centring of the receptacles fitted one into the other is formed and the stacking elements of the remaining steps are brought into contact and thus made operative. <IMAGE>
